EU/AU: WiiWare (August 29, 2008)
Nintendo treats European and Australian Wii owners to a double helping of brand new WiiWare titles this week – one a puzzler that isn’t even out in Japan yet, and the other also known as Saku Saku Animal Panic.
MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade (Nintendo, 800 Wii Points):
Well, this is something we didn’t expect. Funny-looking Japanese puzzler MaBoShi was spotted for WiiWare a good while back and isn’t even out in its native country yet, but here it is for the delectation of European citizens.
What is MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade? It’s one game but it’s also three. It’s simple to play, yet deceptively deep. It’s based on three basic shapes: circle, bar and square. There are three game windows, allowing three people to play different games at the same time, using only the A button or Control Pad. But there is a twist: each game can have an effect on the others. In each game, the goal is the same – score a million points – but the challenge is different; whether you’re bashing enemies in Circle Mode, weaving your way through Bar Mode, or burning through a maze of obstacles in Square Mode. MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade also features Mii characters, action replays that you can send to friends via WiiConnect24, and even a Nintendo DS download version for playing on the go!
Critter Round-Up (Konami, 1-4 Players, 1000 Wii Points):
Critter Round-Up (Saku Saku Animal Panic in Japan) is a puzzle video game developed by Epicenter Studios and Konami. The player controls a farmer who must build fences to contain several animals. Players must separate species from each other while avoiding running into them and keeping them away from predators. Occasionally, a present will drop from the sky which, if collected, gives the player a power-up such as food to attract the animals.
Developed by Los Angeles, CA-based Epicenter Studios, Critter Round-Up is a puzzle game for up to four players. Players are challenged with building fences to separate different critter species into their own area, while avoiding predators and other mischievous animals attempting to stop you from rounding them up. Players can corral exotic critters from five environments encompassing 50 levels, with gameplay modes including a co-op Adventure Mode as well as special co-op challenges for up to four players. There’s also a Marathon Mode that supports up to four layers on a nearly infinite number of levels, as well as a collection of Critter Games, an entertaining selection of mini games such as Snowball Soccer and Predator Rampage.
Until next week… spend those Wii Points wisely!
