The official Nintendo magazine over in the US has laid bare numerous details of the eagerly awaited new Sonic title for Nintendo’s Wii console, which is set for release later this year. The scans from the publication show off lots of new screenshots plus images of the China level and some new Werehog in Europe shots. When Sonic is in his standard mode, players will be able to control him using the control stick, whilst jumping with A. There will be the chance to use a ‘Quick Step’ maneouvre, whereby Sonic can dodge left or right by simply holding down on the B button and then tapping the control stick in whichever direction is required. Sonic can also drift during the game by holding B or Z, and there is the chance to make use of a homing attack, which is triggered by shaking the Wii Remote around. Finally, to make Sonic go even faster, when on the ground, running around, shaking the Wii Remote will result in a small extra speed boost.

As for when Sonic morphes into his Werehog persona, players will be able to swing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to attack using Sonic’s right and left hands, respectively, whilst pressing on Z results in a blocking move. Combination moves are carried out by simply swinging the Wii Remote and Nunchuk upwards, downwards, or towards each other; B allows for grabbing and tossing of enemies; C brings out the “Unleashed” mode where the gamer gains new attacks and takes less damage on the whole. Enemies can be grabbed in mid-air and they can be swung from side-to-side by swinging the Wii Remote like a pendulum. In addition to this, players will be able to climb poles by lifting the Wii Remote and Nunchuk pairing alternately, and gates can be raised with just a little pulling up motion with the two controllers.

Sonic Unleashed will hit all formats later this year from SEGA
