Level-5 reveals four new Nintendo DS exclusives

Level-5, the Japanese developer that has already impressed Nintendo fans with its DS games so far - with two Professor Layton puzzle adventures already released, plus the football-RPG crossover project ‘Inazuma Eleven’, has now revealed that it has four more Nintendo DS games in the pipeline.

It has been revealed that the team behind the Dark Cloud RPG series for Sony, and the recent Professor Layton games from the Nintendo DS, has revealed an impressive four new Nintendo DS projects. With Level-5’s special conference due to take place in a few days, Famitsu magazine has spilled a few details of what can be expected from the event.

Hopes are high for the 3rd Layton, following this game’s massive success

To start with, Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel, the Professor’s eagerly awaited third adventure on DS, will be released in Japan on 27th November, the same day Square Enix is releasing Chrono Trigger DS. With the previous two games selling over 1.5 million units in total since release, expectations are high, if not higher, for this third and final entry into the current trilogy. Next is news of a sequel to the fantastic Inazuma Eleven, which fuses touch-screen football action with a Role-Playing Game mechanic, and will be coming next year, carrying on the Football Frontier premise, as well as introducing the Alien Gakuen team to the fold.

What people may find even more interesting, though, is a newly revealed title called Ninokuni, which again launches in 2009 and will feature Studio Ghibli animation throughout. It will be the first of Level 5’s 10th Anniversary products and will come bundled with a special book that is filled with information on various magic crests and spell recipes. This “Magic Master” book is something that the main character in the game has, and the player will need to refer to from time to time while playing the game. Apparently there are plans to create a currently undecided home console edition as well, just as Inazuma Eleven Break is still in the works for an unannounced platform. This console version is hoped to be something that can offer a different experience for people that have already played the DS iteration, with the selection of the hardware being based on which is most suitable for this purpose. In addition, the exact same book will be packaged with the console version as with the DS one. Screens and scans of Ninokuni can be seen below:

On top of these two new game announcements, Level-5 also told Famitsu about two other titles, without revealing any specific information, both of which are expected to feature at the 26th September conference. They are:

  • Akira Tago’s Brain Exercise Vol.1 Travel Around the World Solving Puzzles (Nintendo DS, Spring 2009)
  • Sloane and McHale’s Mysterious Story (Nintendo DS, 2009)

The Akira Tago game is likely something to try and tap into the Professor Layton crowd, since the puzzles in those games are from Akira Tago’s books, but nothing is known of the ‘Mysterious Story’ title, although it could be along the same lines.
