2006 was a quiet year for the WWE licence with THQ deciding not to bombard the gaming world with update after update. Having realised this makes them a lot less money, 2007 is set to see another onslaught begin. Good news for those of you who like man in stupid, tight-fitting and often scanty outfits.

With a PS3 version is already in the pipeline for later on this year and now the Wii and the DS are getting ready to step into the ring. In an investor conference call (very boring event involving lots of numbers, Google it if you are that curious), the publisher announced it would be releasing WWE ‘products’ on both the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii sometime during in the next fiscal year that runs from April 2007 to March 2008.

We don’t know if it will fall under the SmackDown! vs. RAW banner or if THQ will be working out a seperate series for Nintendo platforms, as was the case with the GameCube and the GBA. Wrestling on the Wii will no doubt be a total blast (if done well) and will definitely require a large open space between players, inanimate objects and other players. Expect arm waving and dangerous/violent movement galore.

Hopefully it will make full and innovative use of the Wii controller (no gimpy gimmicks please), but we can’t tell you yet as no details have been announced. Nope, nothing. Ah well, we’ll bring you all the information when THQ decide to tell us something. Until then, enjoy the picture of a grown man in underpants about to fall on this other (rather unfortunate man) in a tiny little leotard. You just can’t make this stuff up…
