Manhunt 2 coming to Nintendo Wii
One of the most controversial games of all time is not only getting a sequel, it is coming to the Nintendo Wii. Who said Nintendo was only for kids? Details of this rather shocking announcement after the jump.
Manhunt 2 has been announced for the PS2, PSP and…the Nintendo Wii. Rockstar’s title was one of the most controversial releases in gaming history and many stores refused to stock it. It also sparked a huge media frenzy about a possible link with violent behaviour. Simply put, it caused the industry a lot of problems. In development by Rockstar London, this will be the first title from the new southern studio and will be worked on in conjunction with Rockstar North. The Wii version is being developed by Rockstar Toronto. The game will be available sometime this summer. Sam Houser, founder and executive producer of Rockstar Games said:
“With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward. We are also excited to have our newest development team, Rockstar London, working on the title alongside our two established UK studios, Rockstar North and Leeds.”

No doubt swinging about weapons using the Wii remote will have the mass-media up in arms, but this really is interesting news. For many, one of the key concerns about the image of the Wii was that it appeared to be ‘for the kids’, but now it is the only next-gen home system that will play host to a hugely mature title. Certainly not one for the kids, and hopefully if it sells well it will herald the arrival of a whole host of more ‘mature’ titles for the Wii. Good news for Nintendo? this news has sold another wii
this isn’t a kiddie console anymore
this will be fun
Wow. I am shocked. Many parents are going to buy the Wii for their kids because it’s a wholesome family system. But now a game like Manhunt 2 comes out and it may completely tarnish the Wii’s image.
True, many older gamers are going to love the fact that a “mature” game is on the Wii, but a game like Manhunt will cause huge controversy by being the first true mature game on a Nintendo platform. Parents should be warned not to buy this game for their kids.
Still the fact that Rockstar is putting an incredibly dark and violent game out for a Nintendo system shows that Nintendo is capable of attracting dark thematic games, and this will lure in the more gamers away from Xbox and PlayStation.
There’s been plenty of “Mature” games on Nintendo systems, it’s just people are too ignorant to realise it.
RE for instance?
i agree with lampshadehead.
mature doesnt mean extreme violence.
i would say that im looking forward to a wii mature version of dirty naked hooker express 3.
now that would be cool.
Is dirty naked hooker express 3 out on the 360? I ain’t getting a Wii for another month or so.
Um, okay, I’ll believe this when I’m playing it…and not before.
Ay least the game play will be original unlike the other two repetitve consoles.
So can you like…. stab people…..or …hit them…… slit throats….. with …. the Wii-mote?!?!
How would you put the plastic bag over their head?
I’m confused.
