Fans of the popular animated television show Totally Spies! should be, um, totally overjoyed to learn that third-party videogame publisher and developer Ubisoft has this week confirmed that a gaming adaptation of Totally Spies! will be coming to the Nintendo DS before the close of 2007, with a Nintendo Wii version also due to arrive in the first quarter of 2008.

The new and exciting deal, which has been penned by Ubisoft and OUAT Entertainment, will bring Marathon Media’s Totally Spies! series to the DS and Wii across all PAL territories (sorry about that, NTSC folks). And, with a French television audience share equating to some 50% – in the face of 12 other children’s broadcasters and their own rival cartoon properties – it’s not difficult to see why France’s number-one animated series is coming to a videogame console near you in the near future.

That’s not to say that Totally Spies! exists a truncated IP that will only appeal to those living and playing in France, far from it. In fact, the popular animated show is aired worldwide via the likes of the Cartoon Network (US), Teletoon (Canada), GMTV (UK), and Super RTL (Germany) – to name but a few of the international broadcast carriers.

The game itself is being described as an all-out action comedy adventure that focuses on the story surrounding three female college students from Beverly Hills that fall headlong into a life of international espionage with the World Organization of Human Protection (WOOHP). And, in perfectly acceptable spy tradition, it’s not long before the three students are trained up as super agents, all decked out with masses of cutting edge technology to aid in their ensuing covert quests.

said Vincent Chalvon-Demersay, president of Marathon Media, while Alain Corre executive director EMEA at Ubisoft commented that,

“Totally Spies! has made a great impact with young viewers, both girls and boys alike… We look forward to bringing an action and humor-filled gaming experience to the Totally Spies fans.”
