In amongst a press release today released by Nintendo, the firm revealed that one of the Nintendo Wii’s most anticipated titles, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, will hit shelves in North America on August 20.

Retro Studios’ third instalment in the first-person action-adventure series was one of the first Wii games ever glimpsed (in an E3 trailer), but it’s launch has been held back for so long so that it can be the best game it can be. Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime said that it wouldn’t be released until the publisher was satisfied. “The fact with Metroid is we want to make sure that that game is perfect,” he has previously insisted.

So August 20 is the date Americans will be able to get their grubby mitts on Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, but there’s no word as yet for Japanese or European consumers. Now, if only Nintendo would get around to announcing specific dates for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy…
