A Myst descends upon Nintendo’s DS…
The PC adventure genre seems to be making somewhat of a strong comeback as of late, mainly thanks to the advent of the Nintendo DS and Wii, with their PC-like control input methods. Now a really old classic is about to be revived on the portable platform…
An official Press Release has been released by Midway stating that the initial rumour from last year that stated Myst could come to the DS as well as the PSP is indeed now fact, as the publisher is lining up the Cyan Worlds production for a November 2007 launch here in Europe.
Originally from 1993 on PC and Mac, Myst is an immersive experience that leads you into a unique setting where you must wander around, all alone around varied times and places. This mysterious game comes with no instructions, and neither will you be busy interacting with any living beings. However, it quickly becomes apparent that your actions could very well aid individuals who are somehow trapped in a parallel dimension.
Whilst many love Myst and its pseudo-sequels, other have criticised it for basically being a set of high quality photographs that you flick between, rather than actually wandering around a 3D world. However, that is part of Myst’s appeal, detaching you from everything and leaving only a sense of isolation. You do not ‘play’ Myst, but more ‘experience’ it.
Distancing itself from run-of-the-mill adventure games, Myst does not offer the player any inventory, death sequences or dialogue. There are a wealth of puzzles, though, which may seems disjointed and completely unrelated to one another, but actually do share a commonality. The non-linear gameplay of Myst leaves players highly intrigued and although many may get stuck early on, it draws you back in again and again, tempting you to try and make more progress.
Below are some of the main features of the game:
- All source code has been re-written specifically for Nintendo DS performance and gameplay;
- A complete all NEW Age, the RIME AGE, to explore and uncover mysteries on DS;
- NEW sounds, effects, and video clips added throughout. All newly created graphic sets for the added RIME AGE specifically done for the DS;
- Newly re-mastered Video and audio;
- Save Multiple games for various players;
- Truly a Mass Market Franchise targeting Women and Men.
