The King of All Cosmos and his Katamari chums have rolled into the videogaming news lens this week, with news that the Sony PlayStation 3 version of Beautiful Katamari may have been canned in favour of bringing it to the Nintendo Wii instead.

A rumour that first surfaced on IGN claims that “sources close to Namco Bandai” are reporting that all work has ground to a complete halt on the PS3 version of Beautiful Katamari. Apparently, a combination of both porting issues from the Microsoft Xbox 360 as well as the poor performance of the PS3 thus far in the retail market, are the primary reasons for the decision.

Another reason that the series would be just perfect for Wii, is it’s rolly-polly action, in which the aim of the game is to roll the biggest ball of everything that you can, by bundling it up with your sticky-surfaced Katamari.

The original Katamari title, Katamari Damacy did not get a release in PAL territories such as Europe and Australia, since publishers thought it was too “quirky” for these markets. However, Electronic Arts picked up both sequels, We ♥ Katamari and Me & My Katamari, much to the appreciation of its cult audience of fans around the world.
