Spielberg and EA’s Wii title detailed

In one of the biggest moves to demonstrate the intertwining between the movie and videogames industry, Electronic Arts and Steven Spielberg announced that they were working on a trio of games together. After a long period of silence, the world famous director himself has let slip a few choice details about what we can all expect.

After playing Wii Tennis against Nintendo design guru Shigeru Miyamoto at a 2006 videogames conference, he suggested to the Japanese developer with regards to the Wii, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could do dot-to=dot?” That dot-dot-dot turned out to be an action-puzzle simulator, code-named PQRS. It runs on top of a physics program that lets you manipulate blocks with the Wii remote as if it were an extension of your hand. Or, as Spielberg explains more simply, “It just seemed like a great thing for the entire family to play together over Christmas. Although you don’t need the excuse of a holiday to enjoy it.”

PQRS, then, eh? Mysterious, indeed.

In an earlier chat with GameDaily, an EA spokesperson said in relation to the Nintendo Wii project: “Lou Castle is producing, one of the great producers in this industry, and that’s one of the products we’re building for the Wii. Very exciting and interesting…”

That’s all we know so far (other than the Wii title will be exclusive to Nintendo’s latest home console), but we reckon this might be one to follow keenly. After all, you can hardly dismiss the creative talents in a team consisting of one Hollywood’s most respected directors and the planet’s biggest third party developer and publisher.
