Rockstar Games announces Table Tennis for Wii

Rockstar Games (those of the Grand Theft Auto fame) has announced today that the first game it will be bringing to the Nintendo Wii is Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis.

Developed by Rockstar Leeds in collaboration with Rockstar Sandiego, the firm’s table tennis title promises that players will feel the “unmatched speed and intensity of the real-life sport,” offering an authenic physics engine, and gameplay that will rival the kind of excitement experienced by those who compete in the sport internationally. High hopes, then.

Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis firs appeared on the Microsoft Xbox 360 in May 2006 to critical acclaim. Of course, its very nature is perfect for the Nintendo Wii’s motion sensitive controls - the table tennis in Wii Play is perhaps just a taster of what we can expect from a fully-fledged virtual re-creation of the sport on the console.

“Ever since we released Table Tennis, fans have been asking us to create a Wii version,” said Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. “By bringing Table Tennis to the Wii and utilizing the motion-sensitive Wii Remote, a new audience can now experience a game that is beautifully designed and impossible to put down.”

The title will be released this autumn and might very likely sell well, particularly if sold at a budget price as was the Xbox 360 original.
