Jam with the Band & Jump Super Stars for Europe?

An interesting rumour has appeared on the Internet today, stating that two thought to be long-lost DS games may well be heading to Europe thanks to Nintendo this coming Winter. But just how reliable is the source?

Well, whilst the original location of the story is nothing more than a few lines in a NeoGAF topic, the creator of the post has previously revealed that Rockstar’s Bully (Canis Canem Edit as it is known in the UK) was heading to Nintendo’s Wii a week before the actual Press Release was unveiled.Jam with the Band, a game thought long-lost on DS!

But what are the games that are actually being spoken about? Well, the first is Jam with the Band, a game that hit back when the Nintendo DS was first released in Japan at the tail end of 2004. The music-based title has been in discussion for a Western release on several occasions, with Nintendo promoting it around the time of the DS launch in Europe in March 2005, plus at various E3 events. However, now Elite Beat Agents has paved the way for the rhythm genre on the touch-screen portable, it seems Nintendo is ready to take the plunge.

Could Jump Super Stars be coming to Europe? In addition, the other game in this intriguing rumour is the Ganbarion-developed Jump Super Stars, the first of two melee fighting games in a similar mold to the Smash Bros. series, except including a wealth of anime characters that regularly feature in Japanese publication Shonen Jump. The game proved a massive hit in 2005 in Japan, selling around 500,000 units at a time before the DS had really sparked into life as it has done post-Brain Training and nintendogs, and its sequel, the online-enabled Jump Ultimate Stars proved an even bigger success last year, cracking well over 650,000 sales. It was thought that as many of Jump’s properties are picked up for the West by separate licensees, the game would never see the light of day here. But perhaps this is the reasoning behind the delay and why only the first game has been so far picked up, with the sequel having many more characters within.

Obviously nothing official has been released regarding this at the moment, but the rumour-poster states he works at EB Games in Germany and has a very reliable source himself, telling us to be patient and wait until the Leipzig Games Convention next month for official confirmation.
