Star Trek: Conquest announced for Wii

It’s time to boldly go where no software developer has gone before - with a game based on the Star Trek franchise heading to the Nintendo Wii for the Holiday season this year.

Bethesda Softworks today announced Star Trek: Conquest for Nintendo’s latest home console, promising a blend of “strategy and intense action set in ‘The Next Generation’ era.

Players will take control of Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Cardassin, Dominion, and Breen forces on a campaign to conquer the galaxy one planet at a time. The turn-based strategy element of game will make full use of the Wii Remote as you select and manoeuvre around what we hope to be a vast environment.

Once you’ve engaged in battle, your viewpoint will then switch to a ship level tactical veiw, allowing you to command your fleet while initiating in real-time combat. Again making use of the Wii’s unique controls, you’ll direct the ship by tilting the Nunchuck and fire at adversaries using the Wii Remote’s pointer.

Star Trek: Conquest looks to be a budget release at $29.99, but we’re hoping that (even if it isn’t a brilliant piece of software engineering) that it at least gives Wii owners an idea of how well the drag and drop motions needed in real-time strategy titles will work on the Wii.
