Midway Games has announced today that it has signed a publishing deal to release Myst on the Nintendo DS in Europe. The graphic adventure was confirmed as in development for North America back in June.

Myst is an unusual first-person adventure game in that there is no inventory, no dialogue and no risk of death. Instead, the focus is on a depth of puzzling made consistent throughout the experience. The game’s non-linear gameplay has previously caused frustration with newer gamers, but many, many more find the experience refreshing and intriguing.

The Myst adventure is like no other, tantalizing with its unique combination of lavish environments, puzzles, mazes, and a sizzling underlying drama which steadily unfolds to reward the player further still.

Leonie Manshanden, European Marketing Director, Midway Games Ltd, said, “Myst lends itself well to portable formats, as we saw from the PSP release. The DS will add an extra dimension using the touch screen, and the game matches this handheld’s expanding demographic perfectly.”

The release of Myst on the Nintendo DS follows a version of the 12 million unit-selling title on the Sony PlayStation Portable last year. Hopefully the DS’ interactive control scheme will make the eerie adventuring that much more engaging.

Myst is planned for a November release in the US with, we hope, a European release to follow shortly afterwards.
