Speed Racer zooms onto Nintendo Wii and DS
Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed that Speed Racer, a title named after the upcoming Wachowski brothers (famous for directing The Matrix trilogy) film is currently in development for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS.
According to Warner Bros. Interactive, “players will be able to take on the role of the characters from the film, getting behind the wheels of each character’s signature vehicles to experience firsthand the film’s high-adrenaline, combative racing style.”
Says Samantha Ryan, senior vice president of Development and Production, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment:
“Speed Racer is an exceptionally creative property and teamed with the Wachowski brothers’ vision it makes for action-packed racing gameplay. The game will capture the intensity of the racing in the film to give gamers and movie fans a chance to take the wheel after they experience the film.”
Speed Racer’s plotline follows the life of a young racing car driver, Speed, as he follows his dreams of becoming a world famous in the sport with the help of his trusty customised Mach 5 vehicle. The film is based on the original animated series created by Tatsuo Yoshida.
The movie’s producer Joel Silver has stated that the Wachowski siblings, being videogames fans themselves, believe that an interactive game is key to the entire Speed Racer experience.
