Popcorn Arcade aims to become Wii’s biggest dev - Uh oh

Data Design Interactive has announced that it has set up a dedicated Wii development studio for its Popcorn Arcade label; it hopes to become the most active Wii software studio around, with 14 titles planned for release this year.

…And another 30 for the next twelve months. Wowza. tewart Green MD of Data Design Interactive, said:

“With the incredible success of the Nintendo Wii’s casual gaming market, we want our Popcorn Arcade brand to be the must-have purchase for the casual gamer. We have 14 titles that we want to ship this year, four of which already have gold master status and another 3 have been submitted to Nintendo for final approval. To keep up with this staggering momentum, we have set up a new development studio, where a brand new team can immediately start working on existing titles and start developing our planned 30 future titles over the next 12 months.”

We wouldn’t get too excited if we were you, particularly going by evidence of what Popcorn Arcade has created so far. Just LOOK at the footage of Billy the Wizard: Rocket Boomstick Racing above. That’s a Wii game, not something for the original PlayStation.

Sorry, we’re off to cry.
