Watch movies on your Wii

Details have been released of a new piece of technology that allows you to watch full length movies on your Wii. How? Magic! Well, no, not really, it is simply a clever video converter. We’ve got all the info for you inside.

Want to watch DVDs on your Wii? Well, now you can…sort of. Thanks to a company called X-OOM you can now watch movies and TV shows via your Wii. The software works by converting the movie file over to be compatible with the Wii hardware.

X-OOM’s latest software, supporting the MJPEG codec, allows for perfect quality playback. Simply run the DVD on a PC and save the file using ‘Movies on Wii’ to the appropriate format; once this is complete, transfer the file to the Wii using an SD memory card.

With a number of editing options including an ‘Expert Mode’, you can also cut and back up individual scenes and whole movies as you wish. With help from X-OOM’s Fit-To-Stick technology, movies can be automatically loaded onto the memory card in a short, simple process using only the space that is available.

X-OOM Movies on Wii offers extensive support of video formats including DivX, XviD, MPEG2, MPEG4, WMV etc.

X-OOM Movies on Wii is priced at £19.99 and is available from www.X-OOM.com and www.amazon.co.uk and it requires the following specs to run:

Windows, 2000/ XP or Vista, CPU 700 MHz, 256 MB of RAM, screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher, 140 MB of free disk space for installation and up to 10 GB of temporary disk space

That’s too much work to watch a damn movie. Nintendo should just make is possible to throw a DVD in and watch it.

That would be far too easy.

Yes it would, but today with a good DVD player around $60 who needs it. I don’t buy video game systems to watch DVDs. That what my DVD player is for. It’s a GAMING system.

well i agree with Nintendo is for video playing, bulls** with all the psp and Play3 availability to play movies! That is not why i bought a console!

Yeah, but… If Wii had playbacks it would be better! The PS2+ had and if you see, with homebrews you can watch dvd videos directly from the drive!
