Camelot back on Wii, Football RPG on DS, Prof. Layton 2!
The latest Japanese news updates have started to filter in from Famitsu magazine, with all the juicy tidbits being collated by the kind folk over at NeoGAF.com. Ready for Camelot’s return on Wii, two new Level 5 DS games and much more?
Wii Love Golf (Wii, Capcom)
To start with, originally people were extremely disappointed to hear that Camelot was supposedly working on an online PC golf game for a South Korean publisher, rather than continuing its Nintendo support with something like a new Golden Sun RPG project or even another entry into the Mario Sports line-up. However, now Camelot is back, albeit under the wing of Capcom, with “Wii Love Golf”. This new Wii title is set for a Winter 2007 release in Japan and lets the player use the Wii controller for the swinging motion and has courses such as one located at a beach resort and another at a desert ruins. No further details have been unveiled at this time.
King Story (Wii, Marvelous Interactive)
Next up is the game many are saying is a ‘Dream Team Project’, and was originally entitled ‘Project O’. Now the game has been given its final name of ‘Ousama Monogatari’, which translates as ‘King Story’ in English. Whether or not that translation will indeed be the Western name, though, is currently unknown. The game is being worked on by Cing (the team behind Another Code and Hotel Dusk on DS), Town Factory and Marvelous Interactive (Harvest Moon, Rune Factory and much more), with Marvelous actually being the publisher of the game as well, lining it up for a 2008 launch. The game has you play as a king, making the townsfolk do work and build up the country. It is being deemed an RPG with heavy simulation elements, where each character has their own way of life. Moving away from the town location you will also come across places that are infested with beasts that can be killed with between one and ten of your people (of which they all have different strength levels).
Professor Layton and the Devil’s Box (NDS, Level 5)
We already knew that Professor Layton and the Curious Village was to be the first in a trilogy of game, but now Level 5 has confirmed that the sequel to the 600,000+ selling game (in Japan alone!) is coming on 29th November this year in Japan. There is to be a new character called Anthony who is voiced by Takao Oosawa, as well as Katya, with Suzuka Oogo taking the vocal lead for her. There are to be extended functions found within the Professor’s bag, such as for the Investigation Memo (which lists the current status of the investigation as well as past discoveries); The Deepening Mysteries (lists the keywords of the various “occurrences” that you come across); Puzzle Dictionary (where puzzles you have encountered are stored); and Save (pretty self-explanatory, no?). Finally the theme song for the game is to be sung by Salyu.
Inazuma Eleven (NDS, Level 5)
Moving on, Level 5 had an unannounced RPG in the works for the Nintendo DS, but now the game has been revealed to be ‘Inazuma Eleven’, a football-themed (’soccer’ for US readers) role-playing game that currently has no firm release date. It has:
- Characters that are anime-like with insane special attacks;
- Matches that are played with the stylus;
- A story mode where you play as a scout;
- Dribbling where you actually draw an arrow in the direction you want to play;
- Passing where you touch the player you want to pass to;
- Shooting where you touch the goal and you can also decide to shoot left or right;
- The ability to, when dribbling, touch other players, or you hit people who have the ball, which takes you into a “Command Battle” where two commands are displayed on the bottom screen;
- Over 1,000 characters who can be your ‘allies’ throughout the adventure;
- A versus mode and the possibility of swapping via wireless play.
Luminous Arc 2 (NDS, Marvelous Interactive)
Last, but by no means least, is Luminous Arc 2 from Marvelous Interactive, which is due for Japanese release this winter. The battle conditions are to be much more varied than before, with each character also able to equip up to three Lapis Arts. The main character has a deal with a witch, allowing him to use an engage ring for support skills in battles, which increases the physical / magic attacks, and so on. Other than that, the only other snippet of information revealed is that depending on which witch you have a contract with, the results will differ throughout the game.
Finally, below are the latest review scores from the magazine, where four different reviewers give their opinions and a final score out of then and we handily put all the marks together for a total score out of forty. Check out the latest review results below:
