Level-5 announces soccer RPG for Nintendo DS

First announced in Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Level-5 has announced that it is bringing Inazuma Eleven to the Nintendo DS, a game that fuses ‘the beautiful game’ with RPG elements to create, well, something quite peculiar.

From what we can gather, players will adventure across an expansive land, battling enemies by playing soccer as they go. The stylus will control the movements of your characters as well as when and whom you attack.

Level 5 also reveals that in excess of 1000 characters could be your allies during the adventure, and that a Versus and Exchange mode will be available via the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection.

What a strange, strange concept - but given the Nintendo DS’ ability to make good of all sorts of genres and experiences, we’re holding out hope for Inazuma Eleven.

There’s no release date yet, but we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out some of the first screenshots above.

i dun think the football rpg is something purely original. i remember playing something like that during the NES days. hahaha. it was based on some popular football manga.

The game’s actually really cool. I’ve just been playing an early demo that was included in Professor Layton 2: The Devil’s Box and it’s a fun RPG, yet also a cool take on the football genre, with great on-the-fly tactics using the stylus. Can’t wait for the final game!
